YYC MC Polo Sho is back with a new single! Y’all know I have to give a breakdown for a new song of mine! “Rise” is a motivational record I wrote earlier this year to remind myself that; regardless of current adversities, I am still going to weather through and make it in the rap game. In my first verse I rap, “Had to call on my mom, I was really on the news” to refer to my CTV News coverage in February which was for my crowdfunding campaign which raised $5,000 towards my debut studio album “Determination” (Out November 30th). As that was a milestone in my career, I highlighted it in the song to show that I am on my way to the top. In the hook I rap, “Yo I ain’t stopping till I reach the damn top”, to make it known that I will keep going till my goal is reached. The instrumental is synth based and driven by a knocking boom-bap beat and sub bassline!
The music video was shot, directed and edited by, rising Videographer on the YYC Hip-Hop scene, Eighty4 Visuals. It’s set mainly in a track field and Fish Creek Provincial Park. I am seen performing my lyrics and doing various physical exercises which include running, long-jumping and biking. Training vigorously throughout the video is a metaphor for me working to make it in the rap game. At the end of the video I am seen worn out and overlooking the city with a downtown Calgary view to represent the come up. Very professionally done! Shout out to Polo Sho on a dope record! Show some love to the artists! Give them a follow and add this song to your playlists! Let’s grow YYC Hip-hop!
